Tomorrow night we will witness live on Pay-Per-View one of the biggest… no let me rephrase that, THE biggest UFC card of the year! It’s UFC 92 live in Las Vegas and yours truly is here to breakdown the main card with in depth predictions.
C.B Dollaway vs. Mike Massenzio
Former college wrestling rivals will square off one more time but not on the wrestling mats, no this time they will settle the score inside the octagon! C.B Dollaway defeated Massenzio back in Junior College I believe and ever since then Massenzio has been dying for a rematch. Both guys are really good wrestlers and both have been working on their stand up quite diligently so I do believe we will see them stand and trade for awhile but eventually I can see it going to the ground and the “Doberman” C.B Dollaway will get the submission in impressive fashion… maybe even another Peruvian Necktie?
C.B Dollaway by second round submission
Cheick Kongo vs. Mustapha Al Turk
I know nothing about Al Turk so it’s hard for me to predict this fight without having any knowledge of him or how he fights. I’m not a big fan of Cheick Kongo’s but I do believe he will win this fight with a first round knock out, unless Al Turk comes out and makes a name for himself by completely destroying Kongo.
Cheick Kongo by first round KO
Wanderlei Silva vs. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson
This is the fight that I am most looking forward to on this card and also is my prediction for fight of the night! These two hate each other, they fought twice before and both times Wanderlei Silva knocked Rampage out. However that was a long time ago and Quinton has improved drastically since then, both in his wrestling and in his boxing. If Rampage has the right mindset going into this fight, I believe he will finally avenge his first two losses but if his mind isn’t right I think we will see Wanderlei knock him out for a third time. Both fighters have crazy knock out power and they both have really good chins so this has the potential to be a three round stand up war and I think Quinton will come out on top in this one.
Quinton “Rampage” Jackson by split decision
Interim UFC Heavyweight title: Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira vs. Frank Mir
This should be the most technical fight of the night, hell it will probably be one of the most technical fights of the year. When I say technical I mean you are going to see some world class technique, not just on the ground but on the feet as well. They both have world class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but Nogueira’s is better. Mir has some good stand up, but Noguiera has much better boxing and thus is the better striker. I think Frank Mir is most dangerous in the first round but if he doesn’t finish Nog early then he will not win this fight. I can see Mir winning the first two rounds only to gas out in the later rounds and leave himself open for a Noguiera submission.
“Minotauro” Noguiera by fourth round submission
Main Event: UFC Light Heavyweight title- Forrest Griffin vs. Rashad Evans
It’s the TUF Season one winner against the TUF Season two winner for the UFC’s 205 pound title! Forrest is coming off two huge wins against Shogun and Rampage and Rashad just knocked Chuck Liddell out cold so this is the fight that everyone wants to see. It’s tough to predict it honestly could go either way but let’s take a moment to stylistically break it down. Striking, Forrest is probably the more technical striker and is better at picking his shots and using his reach advantage. However Rashad has some good boxing, he has very good head movement, solid footwork and a ton of knock out power. Wrestling, Rashad has the best wrestling in the division and can pretty much put anyone on their back, but Forrest has some good takedown defense and his wrestling isn’t too bad either so I can see Rashad having a hard time getting Forrest down. Jiu-Jitsu, Forrest has the better jits but I think Rashad also has a few tricks up his sleeve that he might show us in this fight, but you have to give the edge to Forrest when it comes to Jiu-Jitsu. Rashad in the past has shown that he doesn’t have the best cardio and we all know Forrest Griffin can go five rounds no problem so I think once it goes past round three the advantage goes to Forrest.
Forrest Griffin by unanimous decision
