UFC Fight For The Troops Preview

December 8th, 2008 · No Comments

Two columns in one day, yeah I’m honestly just sitting here bored so figured I might as well get some good AO articles in before the move. Two big free UFC events this week, both of which I won’t be able to watch. First it’s UFC ‘Fight for the Troops’ bringing you a great night of free fights, let’s get to my predictions!

Main Event: Josh Koscheck vs. Yoshiyuki “Zenko” Yoshida

Two of the top prospects at 170 pounds going at it on free TV! Koscheck has been successful ever since coming into the UFC a few years back, he’s only ever lost to the current champ GSP and the current number once contender, Thiago Alves. Yoshida on the other hand is new to the UFC coming off a quick win over the man now known solely as ‘War Machine’. Yoshida probably has some of the best Judo for MMA next to Karo Parisyan so I can see him giving Koscheck a ton of problems. Koscheck just fought at UFC 90 so I’m not sure how his body will be going into this fight, Yoshida is fresh and been preparing for this fight for a long time. However I can still see Koscheck coming away with the win, he’s just so explosive with both his stand up and his wrestling and I can see him coming away with a unanimous decision.

Josh Koscheck by Unanimous decision

Mike “Quick” Swick vs. Jonathon Goulet:

Goulet is a tough as nails kind of fighter and I have a ton of respect for him, but I’m going to have to go with Swick in this one. Swick has looked much improved since dropping down to 170, maybe not as exciting and as explosive as he was at 185, but much more technical and so far unbeaten in this weight class. I hope Swick gets the finish because so far all of his fights at 170 have gone the distance, but Goulet is a tough guy to put away.

Mike “Quick” Swick by second round (T)KO

Matt Wiman vs. Jim Miller:

My prediction for fight of the night right here, two up and coming lightweight prospects with very bright futures ahead of them. Wiman was originally slated to face Frankie Edgar but Edgar pulled out due to injury and Jim Miller stepped up. Miller is a dangerous guy but Wiman is a bit better, especially in the stand up. Also with Miller taking this fight on short notice you have to wonder what his cardio will be like going into this fight.

Matt Wiman by second round (T)KO

Steve Cantwell Vs. Razak Al-Hassan

Don’t know the other guy but Cantwell is the WEC champ so I’m going with him.

Steve Cantwell by first round submission

Tim Credeur vs. Nate Loughran

Don’t know too much about Nate other than the fact that he’s undefeated. Though I know Tim Credeur is legit so I’m going to pick him, but Nate might surprise me.

Tim Credeur by second round submission
