Ever been dumped through a text message? How about fired via FedEx?

Well, while we were sleeping, Willie Randolph finally got what we expected him to get – his pink slip.

There isn’t much on this topic that can really be said anymore.

We understand why he got fired.

He lost control of that clubhouse. His team collapsed on him like a Jenga game.

It’s like Lemke said last night on the AO Cast. He should have been fired last year.

We shouldn’t have gone through the New York soap opera that we have all season long, either.

So the Mets, one of the most mismanaged teams in all of sports, fired Randolph in the early hours of Tuesday morning through a press release.

Can you say “while you were sleeping”?

The Mets catch enough grief for being the “other” team in the Big Apple. They’re a back page story in a world where pinstripes and Big Blue reign supreme.

Now they decide to make a move that everyone anticipated at three in the morning?

Come on, guys. Even Eric Bischoff thinks that’s low.

(For those that don’t know, Bischoff used to run WCW and actually FedEx’d a wrestler a letter telling him he’d been fired.)

There are just some ways you have to handle announcing that some guy has just been fired.

Doing it through a press release at 3:15 a.m. ET is not one of them.

It’s not that big of a surprise, though.

This is the team that spends more money than any other team, just to see all that money fail to perform.

The list of names of Mets that couldn’t live up to the dollars they were given reads like a Hall of Fame ballot.

Santana, Martinez, Glavine, Vaughn, Beltran.

That’s just a few.

Then again, look at the General Managers that have flopped with that job, too.

Maybe this is just par for the course for the Mets.
